Boy-Friendly Environment
A Place Where Boys Can Be Boys
“What are
little boys made of?
Frogs and snails
And puppy-dogs’ tails.
That’s what little boys
are made of.”
– Nursery Rhyme
Neuroscience has definitively proven what seems so obvious… boys and girls are different! There are over 100 identified differences in the structure of the brains of boys and girls. Developmental process are different. The hormonal make-up is different. It stands to reason that the academic, physical and social needs of boys and girls are different as well.
We are proud to be the first therapeutic boarding school named as a Gurian Model School. We have designed a “boy-friendly” environment in our all boys boarding school classrooms and throughout our program curriculum.
Here are just a few of the ways “boys can be boys” at CCBS:
Physical Education before class to turn the brain on and get the wiggles out Classroom modifications like yoga balls and standing desks for ADHD and any boy who feels the need to move in class Small classroom size Field trips, outdoor classrooms, experiential opportunities Pets in the classroom Hero Studies to identify role models demonstrating strong character and emphasize the importance of living by our values Character education and Social Skills training Leadership and community service opportunities Active and diverse sports program Free time for recreation or hobbies TREKS - weekend wilderness adventures Celebrations, rituals and rites of passage to acknowledge and honor successes and milestones Male mentors who serve as role model
