Sandra S. Campbell
Boys Boarding School Email Address

Sandra is a “hometown girl”, born and raised in Westminster, SC. While in grad school, Sandra completed her practicum at Cherokee Creek Boys School. Her experience here allowed her the opportunity to discover her true therapeutic passion of working with children and adolescents. She returned to Cherokee Creek as a full-time therapist for the Currahee team.

Sandra is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of South Carolina having received her BA in Communications from the University of South Carolina and her Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling from Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA.

Prior to returning to Cherokee Creek, Sandra was working in private practice specializing in work with survivors of trauma. She is qualified as an expert witness for childhood trauma in SC Family Court. During Sandra’s time in private practice, and at our region’s Child Advocacy Center, she became trained in EMDR, A-TIP to treat acute trauma and crisis, TF-CBT, CBT, CPT, and Child-Centered Play Therapy.

“Establishing safety and trust is the cornerstone of my work with the boys,” says Sandra. “And this caring is essential for creating a strong therapeutic relationship with my students. I am truly humbled by the experience of walking with students and their families on their path to healing.”

Sandra is married to her high-school sweetheart and they have two beautiful, fun-loving boys. When Sandra is not at Cherokee Creek, she enjoys watching her boys play sports, traveling with her family, and serving in her church.

Let me share a middle school story…

“For me, middle school was a time to figure out where I fit in the world and what my true interests were … to ‘discover what is real and true’! My parents did everything to support me … so when I decided I wanted to be a cowgirl, they bought me a horse. Then I decided I wanted to play basketball, so they allowed me to join a traveling basketball team. I loved it and ended up playing point guard for my school’s basketball team … and finally sold my horse. Sports is where I found my passion. It was not so much the wins and losses for me, as being a part of a team and the camaraderie that we shared. I still talk to many of my teammates from my middle-school basketball team.

One funny memory is when a boy I had a crush on slipped me a note in the hallway one day. The note was straight from one of George Straight’s biggest hits at the time, ‘I think this is how love goes, check yes or no.’ Well, of course I checked yes!! I think we ‘dated’ for all of 2 weeks. I can still see that note folded into a little itty-bitty square and feeling so nervous trying to open it. Ah, young love!”
