Measuring the Impact of Our CCBS Therapeutic Approach and the Results Achieved with Students

Cherokee Creek Boys School is proud to be an active member of the National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs (NATSAP), an organization dedicated to advocating for and supporting behavioral healthcare programs, their clients, and associated stakeholders.

Recently, NATSAP released an in-depth report evaluating client outcomes across its member programs. This study provides valuable insights into treatment trends, outcomes and best practices in youth and family services.

NATSAP Evaluation Report | Summary Client Outcomes 2017 – 2023

Cherokee Creek Boys School contributed data that measures the impact of our therapeutic approach and the results we achieve with our students.

The study included data from 51 NATSAP-affiliated programs including Wilderness Therapy (WT), Residential Treatment Centers (RTC), Therapeutic Boarding Schools (TBS) and Young Adult Transition (YAT) programs. Over the course of six years (2017 – 2023), each participating school collected and submitted data evaluating the mental, behavioral and relationship health of their clients. The findings offer an evidence-based assessment of the effectiveness of these therapeutic programs and provide guidance for continued quality improvement.

Key Findings | NATSAP Research Report

  • Client and family functioning showed significant improvement from admission to post-treatment.
  • Male-identifying clients, in particular, reported profound mental health and behavioral improvements.
  • Clients who completed NATSAP programs not only showed progress during treatment but also sustained their gains after leaving the program.

According to NATSAP President, Derek Daley:

“NATSAP remains committed to advancing evidence-based solutions that enhance the quality of care for youth and families. This report validates the effectiveness of our programs while also challenging us to refine, improve and optimize care for our diverse and complex clients. In a world where evidence is essential, we must rely on data, transparency and unwavering dedication to secure the trust of those we serve and advance the field of mental health treatment. NATSAP encourages families and referrers to consider whether a program actively engages in outcome evaluation when selecting a therapeutic school. Research-backed care is essential to ensuring the best possible outcomes for students, families and communities.”

David LePere, CCBS Executive Director, says:

“At Cherokee Creek Boys School, we are honored to be part of this critical effort. Our commitment to measuring outcomes and improving our programs ensures that we continue to provide transformative experiences for our students and their families. As the mental health crisis continues to grow, studies like this reaffirm the impact of therapeutic programs and the importance of maintaining a data-driven approach to care. We are proud to contribute to this vital work and remain committed to fostering lasting change in the lives of the students we serve.”
