The CCBS Difference

— The Small School with a BIG Heart —

“Cherokee Creek was a life-changing experience for my son and our family. I will be forever grateful for the nurturing, the new skills and the wise suport my son received there.”

– CCBS Alumni Parent

Over 20 Years of Serving Boys and Their Families!

Mission and Values Oriented

Having a strong mission statement and clear operational values has been instrumental in creating and maintaining an intentional culture for the entire Cherokee Creek Community.

  • Our Mission Statement | We are a learning community that “challenges boys and their families to discover what is real and true about themselves and the world around them.”
  • Our Operational Values | Safety, Quality, Creativity and Fun

Founder Owned and Operated

Beth and Ron Black founded Cherokee Creek in 2003 with a goal of providing a nurturing and healing experience for boys and their families.

Over 20 years later, they remain committed to this mission of their hearts.

CCBS is an independent program which allows us to remain acutely focused on our mission, values, students, families and team.

Licensed by the State of South Carolina

Licensed by SC as a Group Care Facility

Licensed since 2009 | We choose to be licensed by the state because we know it’s important to have collaboration for best practices when caring for our students. This means that we follow the standards established by our state for a Child Caring Institution with the Department of Social Services (DSS).

  • This includes items like annual background checks for all staff, requirements for staff training hours, and health monitoring of staff.
  • This license also assures that our environment of care is held to the highest of standards for safety – from the fire suppression system in our bunkhouse to our commercial grade kitchen – every detail is important and makes a difference to our students.

The Joint Commission

We are proud to be accredited by The Joint Commission, a national organization that sets standards of care, evaluates our performance and guides us with requirements of continuous improvement. All of this leads to the ultimate common goal of providing safe, quality and effective care.

The Joint Commission accredits and certifies more than 22,000 health care organizations and programs around the world and is considered to be the gold standard of accrediting bodies.

Joint Commission Gold Seal of Approval

Cherokee Creek Boys School has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval

Family Engagement

We are known for being a community for the entire family!

We believe (and studies show) that a critical factor for the long-term, sustained success of a student is FAMILY INVOLVEMENT!

The CCBS Family Center is not a physical place, but a robust component of our program that engages and connects the entire family in a variety of ways.

“Nothing ever goes away until it has taught us what we need to know.”
