Cowboy School
“There’s something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man.”
– Winston Churchill
Working with horses is a beautiful way to bring the guiding principles of the Medicine Wheel to life for our students.
The Warrior practices courage and leadership;
the Visionary explores truth, authenticity, insight and life purpose;
the Healer learns the value of love and forgiveness and doing what has heart and meaning;
and the Teacher develops flexibility, discernment and learning to be open to outcome.
These lessons come to life as boy meets horse in the corral!
Affectionately called “Cowboy School”, our Horsemanship Program is relationship-based and challenges boys to progress through structured levels of horsemanship, learning skills such as horse grooming, harnessing, roping, riding as passengers, riding as leaders, and riding out in the open (on trails) … as their relationships allow.
As the students learn these practical techniques, they are also developing the life lessons of relationship-building, facing fears by practicing courage, honing effective communication skills, and understanding the nature of perception. Your son will be practicing perseverance, respect, discipline, patience, compassion … for both himself and his horse. We find that Cowboy School is an adventure in building confidence and self-esteem … and a new and exciting experience for most boys.
All students participate in our Horsemanship Program as part of the CCBS curriculum. On special occasions, parents (and families) have the opportunity to step in the ring (corral) and try their hand at being a cowboy, too!
This is a truly healing experience for the entire family!
