The CCBS Festival of Nations
This year the festival took place the first week of September and featured presentations from CCBS staff members.
Each day a staff member spoke about a country and a culture that they have been to or lived in for a significant amount of time.
After each presentation, our kitchen team served the country’s cuisine for lunch. And, throughout the week, Holly (our Art teacher) helped the students paint flags of different countries in the world on 6-inch wooden squares and they put them together in one big piece of art (image below).

The Benefits of Understanding Different Cultures
Why Is It Important to Learn About Different Cultures?
According to sociologists, understanding multiculturalism plays a significant role in helping you:
- Recognize that there are lots of different cultures and that they’re individually diverse.
- Acknowledge that all cultural expressions and backgrounds are valid.
- Respect the differences between you and people from other cultures.
- Value everything that other cultures bring to the table.
- Empower people to accomplish their ultimate potential by criticizing their own biases.
- Celebrate each other instead of condoning our differences.
“We must learn about other cultures in order to understand, in order to love, and in order to preserve our common world heritage.”
SPECIAL THANKS go to …
- Cameron, Nick, Mrs. P, Yannick, Dominic, Chrissy and Caleb for sharing their experiences.
- Holly for adding international art to the learning.
- And to Mark and our fabulous Kitchen Team for creating beautiful meals from each culture every day, making the learning extra fun and delicious!
As always, we had a blast discovering what is “real and true about ourselves and the world around us.”
