“I Am Grateful”

Happy Thanksgiving | From Cherokee Creek
At Cherokee Creek Boys School, we focus on the values of Courage, Truth, Love, and Wisdom. We call it the Medicine Wheel.
As boys continue their emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and social development through adolescence, their understanding of morality grows as well … and their behavior becomes more closely aligned with their values and beliefs. Understanding these values, and trying to live by them, provides boys and families with a ‘MORAL COMPASS’ that can help them to make good life decisions as they “discover what is real and true about themselves and the world around them”.
During Thanksgiving and the Autumn season, we particularly focus on GRATITUDE and LOVE … and it’s healing aspects.
Our Clinical Director, Kayla Tompkins shared “that means teaching the boys to ‘pay attention to what has heart and meaning.’ And, we focus on the character trait ‘I am Grateful.’ Students learn that gratitude is a way of showing love to others. We practice this by sharing what we are thankful for in group, family and/or individual therapy sessions. It’s a great way to close a session, as it shifts our mindset to positive thoughts. We share things we appreciate about the world around us as well as the people around us.”
May Thanksgiving remind each of us to practice gratitude in our lives and with those around us.
Happy Thanksgiving from everyone at Cherokee Creek Boys School.
