Celebrating the Festival of Nations!
Honoring the Diversity and Cultures of the World Around Us
Each year, staff and students at Cherokee Creek Boys School join together for a special celebration called The Festival of Nations. It’s a week-long celebration of diversity and cultures around the world.
This year the festival took place the first week of September and featured presentations from CCBS staff members about these five countries / cultures:
- France | Caleb Hawkins
- Tunisia | Evan Eshbaugh
- Japan | Matt Smith (and Cameron Kerr modeling a traditional Japanese garment)
- Mexico | Evira
- Scotland | Sam Taylor
Each day, a staff member spoke about a country and culture they have been to or lived in for a significant amount of time. Immediately after each presentation, our kitchen served the country’s cuisine as lunch for that day. And, we included our Art Class in the celebration. Throughout the week, Holly (our art teacher) gave each student a chance to make a tie-dyed tee shirt incorporating colors from a flag of their chioce.
And a SPECIAL THANKS goes to:
- Holly (our Art Teacher) and
- Mark and our Fabulous Kitchen Team for creating beautiful meals from each culture every day to add to the learning and the fun!
As always, we had a blast discovering what is “real and true about ourselves and the world around us.”

“A Senegalese poet said ‘In the end we will conserve only what we love. We love only what we understand, and we will understand only what we are taught.’
We must learn about other cultures in order to understand, in order to love, and in order to preserve our common world heritage.”
