The Family Center

Just Another Way We are Different from other Therapeutic Boarding Schools

“There is no more powerful, sustaining force than the love of family, and restoring the family as the center of our culture is urgent and critical to the future of the country.”

– Dr. William Friday, President, Emeritus
University of North Carolina

The Cherokee Creek mission commits us to “challenge boys and their families to discover what is real and true about themselves and the world around them.”

The CCBS Family Center is not a physical place but a program of events designed to provide parents with opportunities for respite, learning, and rebuilding families. One of the reasons we are different among therapeutic boarding schools is that we offer parent education programming to support you while your son is at Cherokee Creek. These Family Center activities are important to you… but they are a critical part of your son’s program!

We know that as your student changes and grows, it is imperative that everyone in the family learns and grows as well. The #1 factor for the long-term, sustained success of a student is FAMILY INVOLVEMENT! Our program actively engages parents, siblings and other family members in the process of self-discovery to assure the highest sustainable outcome for everyone.

Important Dates to Remember

We request that parents plan to attend ALL family seminars. In addition to program content, you will also have a scheduled family therapy session and an opportunity to spend time with teachers. Prior to each seminar, you will be emailed specific details and a registration link for the Family Seminar and Family Therapy Sessions.

Please consult with your son’s primary counselor to coordinate any post seminar visits with your son. The primary counselor will offer helpful suggestions for the length and type of visit in order to have the most successful experience.

Please consult with your son’s therapist to decide the most appropriate timing for the additional family programming options. We request that families choose only one family trek, one women’s retreat, one father / son trek during their son’s enrollment.

Please note that there is space for every family at all of our Family Seminars. Our retreats and treks have limited spaces available as we intentionally keep those group sizes smaller for a more meaningful and effective experience.

“Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being there to help our son regain his greatness. After attending Family Seminar, my husband and I are confident Jimmy will be whole again. The compassion of all the staff we encountered has reassured us that we truly found the best program for our son. Working with our child the way you have has given us hope for our families’ future. A day doesn’t go by that we don’t think of how blessed we are to have your dedication to improving Jimmy’s life. I can never thank you enough.”

“Just wanted to drop a line and let you know how awesome the seminar was this past weekend! The Boundaries workshop was excellent and I really appreciate the scripts for the future. I really appreciate the extra effort it takes to keep the families informed and the family services and training you provide so our boys can be successful at home. You have made an incredible difference in my life as well as my whole family. Thank you!”
