The Family Center

Just Another Way We are Different from other Therapeutic Boarding Schools

“There is no more powerful, sustaining force than the love of family, and restoring the family as the center of our culture is urgent and critical to the future of the country.”

– Dr. William Friday, President, Emeritus
University of North Carolina

The Cherokee Creek mission commits us to “challenge boys and their families to discover what is real and true about themselves and the world around them.”

The CCBS Family Center is not a physical place but a program of events designed to provide parents with opportunities for respite, learning, and rebuilding families. One of the reasons we are different among therapeutic boarding schools is that we offer parent education programming to support you while your son is at Cherokee Creek. These Family Center activities are important to you… but they are a critical part of your son’s program!

We know that as your student changes and grows, it is imperative that everyone in the family learns and grows as well. The #1 factor for the long-term, sustained success of a student is FAMILY INVOLVEMENT! Our program actively engages parents, siblings and other family members in the process of self-discovery to assure the highest sustainable outcome for everyone.

Important Dates to Remember

In response to COVID-19, we have cancelled a majority of our in-person Family Center events for 2020. We have prioritized and created opportunities for students and families to safely spend time together with local visits. Parents are working with their sons’ therapist and primary counselor to plan family visits and have safely-distanced family therapy sessions while in town. Having two properties has allowed us to have ‘The Koblick Quarantine House’ with established dates for students to return from visits and to welcome new students as they enroll at Cherokee Creek. Students and staff are given a COVID-19 test on the 5th or 6th day of quarantine and they then transition to our main campus after we receive test results.

We also started our ‘Virtual Family Center’! While nothing can replace gathering as a community, this has been an exciting way to stay connected, find new ways to connect … and to collaborate with thought leaders around the country!

“Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being there to help our son regain his greatness. After attending Family Seminar, my husband and I are confident Jimmy will be whole again. The compassion of all the staff we encountered has reassured us that we truly found the best program for our son. Working with our child the way you have has given us hope for our families’ future. A day doesn’t go by that we don’t think of how blessed we are to have your dedication to improving Jimmy’s life. I can never thank you enough.”

“Just wanted to drop a line and let you know how awesome the seminar was this past weekend! The Boundaries workshop was excellent and I really appreciate the scripts for the future. I really appreciate the extra effort it takes to keep the families informed and the family services and training you provide so our boys can be successful at home. You have made an incredible difference in my life as well as my whole family. Thank you!”
