The Family Center

Just Another Way We are Different from other Therapeutic Boarding Schools

“There is no more powerful, sustaining force than the love of family, and restoring the family as the center of our culture is urgent and critical to the future of the country.”

– Dr. William Friday, President, Emeritus
University of North Carolina

The Cherokee Creek mission commits us to “challenge boys and their families to discover what is real and true about themselves and the world around them.”

The CCBS Family Center is not a physical place but a program of events designed to provide parents with opportunities for respite, learning, and rebuilding families. One of the reasons we are different among therapeutic boarding schools is that we offer parent education programming to support you while your son is at Cherokee Creek. These Family Center activities are important to you… but they are a critical part of your son’s program!

We know that as your student changes and grows, it is imperative that everyone in the family learns and grows as well. The #1 factor for the long-term, sustained success of a student is FAMILY INVOLVEMENT! Our program actively engages parents, siblings and other family members in the process of self-discovery to assure the highest sustainable outcome for everyone.

Important Dates to Remember

In efforts to best support important family visits and also support best practices for COVID protocols, the following schedule and details have been developed. We sure miss having a full and diverse offering of family events and adventures!

We know how incredibly important it is for our families to have time together, so we have remained focused on preparing for and supporting healthy ways for our students to spend time with their families.

Celebrating 18 Years of Serving Boys and Their Families!

The visit program will include some virtual planning events prior to the break. We will also have some in-person ‘events’ on campus during student pick-up and drop-off (in-person events will be physically distanced, require masks and will take place outdoors).

All family visit recommendations are individualized for each student / family. Families will work closely with their son’s Primary and Therapist to plan and finalize all details (such as length and location of visits, etc.)

February 27 – March 8, 2021
April 1 – 12, 2021
May 27 – June 7, 2021
July 1 – 12, 2021

While we will do our best to follow this schedule, we remain flexible as the specific logistics and details around all planning will be guided with real-time information for best practices for COVID safety protocols.

Future visit and academic break dates in 2021 will be determined and announced in the second or third quarter.

Programming to our students and families for their visits

Each therapist will host a 'Team Call' webinar prior to the break week.
These are opportunities for our parent community and Cherokee Creek team to have some important time to connect safely in person. These will take place on the days that students are leaving for and returning from their visits. These gatherings may also include workshop opportunities, such as a Boundaries Bootcamp.
In-person family therapy sessions will be scheduled in conjunction with these visits.
Any in-person events will be physically distanced, require health screening and masks, and will take place outdoors.

“Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being there to help our son regain his greatness. After attending Family Seminar, my husband and I are confident Jimmy will be whole again. The compassion of all the staff we encountered has reassured us that we truly found the best program for our son. Working with our child the way you have has given us hope for our families’ future. A day doesn’t go by that we don’t think of how blessed we are to have your dedication to improving Jimmy’s life. I can never thank you enough.”

“Just wanted to drop a line and let you know how awesome the seminar was this past weekend! The Boundaries workshop was excellent and I really appreciate the scripts for the future. I really appreciate the extra effort it takes to keep the families informed and the family services and training you provide so our boys can be successful at home. You have made an incredible difference in my life as well as my whole family. Thank you!”
