Emily came on board as the Student Services coordinator position at Cherokee Creek and was eager to take on the opportunity to work with middle-school boys – saying she had great training for the job with two older brothers. Now she assists new families coming to Cherokee Creek as the Assistant Admissions Director.

Emily is a Georgia native who attended the University of Georgia, graduating summa cum laude in 2008 with a BS in Early Childhood Education. She loves to travel and spent two years with family in Florida before returning to Athens to soak in its beautiful mountain hiking opportunities, waterfalls, music, and food. She learned of the Student Services coordinator position at Cherokee Creek and was eager to take on the opportunity to work with middle school boys – saying she had great training for the job with two older brothers.

In her spare time, she likes to play in her hobbies of photography and videography. Each day at Cherokee Creek is an opportunity for Emily to provide a good example on respectful communication and boundary setting with the boys, yet she says she learns something every day from them as well.

Let me share a middle school story…

“In my middle school, there was a dance team I wanted to be a part of very much. At the tryouts, all the ‘cool girls’ were practicing by themselves and not being very welcoming to new girls who wanted to try out. Having had prior experience in dance, I found the routine to be a piece of cake and, after noticing a girl struggling with it, chose to help her learn it. The coach called my mom to tell her what a nice kid I was, which made me feel great. In eighth grade I won a Citizenship Award bestowed by the teachers on a student who was known for being a good citizen. The Mayor gave me the award and afterward, my family and I went to Applebee’s. It was nice to be recognized for wanting to help out and it was a very special moment to receive that award in front of my family and the whole school. “
