Denise has been a teacher since 1992, bringing extensive classroom experience with her to Cherokee Creek Boys Boarding School. In addition to a Masters degree in education, she also holds a degree in journalism, has worked in the newspaper and magazine industry, and is a published writer of newspaper and magazine articles.

Denise has an exciting mix of strong language instruction skills, as well as extensive knowledge of Individual Education Plans, testing and interpretation, and experience evaluating and developing diverse curriculum models. At Cherokee Creek, Denise works to foster, in her own words, “enthusiastic and dynamic teaching as a means of creating and nurturing a lifelong love of knowledge.”

Denise joined the CCBS team because, “as a mother of teens and pre-teens, I identify with and enjoy working with this wonderful age group. There is no better time to combine love, discipline and education for lasting effects in a child’s life.”

Let me share a middle school story…

“When I was in middle school, I had a brief career on the girls’ basketball team. I was VERY good at keeping the bench warm. I remember one game in which we were soundly trouncing the opposing team and I got an opportunity to play in the final seconds of the game. My moment of fame came when I caught a rebound, broke away from the gridlock, and ran – unopposed – down the court for an easy shot at the basket. As the ball sailed through the air – and I missed the easy lay-up – I decided then and there to take up class politics. My next year as class Vice President was far more fulfilling.”
