Carson Chuites is from Southern Georgia, attended Columbus High Magnet Program, and went on to receive her BA in Comparative Literature and a minor in Film Studies from the University of Georgia. She continued on with her studies and earned her Masters of Education in Special Education with a concentration in English and twice exceptional student supports.

Carson spoke French growing up and traveled with her family while young. This strengthened a love for culture, food, music, art and travel as an adult and led to backpacking through Europe before college as well as studying at HISA in Paros, Greece and an extended junior year in the Mediterranean. After completing her studies, she fell in love with whitewater, became a raft guide and constructed a compatible boating and skiing lifestyle. She spent several years living and working in Wyoming, Idaho, California and Chile before returning to her favorite river, The Chattooga, the Southeast and her family.

She began at CCBS hiking, canoeing and camping with the boys as a Trek staff for the better part of a year before stepping into the classroom as the ELA teacher. She enjoys bringing literature alive in its myriad forms and working to strengthen communicative skills with the students through creative writing, reading comprehension and verbal expression.  Carson still enjoys getting outside of the classroom and sharing that exuberance with the boys by paddling with them on weekends, doing kayak roll clinics and working with them in lacrosse.

Carson has been recognized by the National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs (NATSAP) as Teacher of the Year.

Let me share a middle school story…

“Once at a school dance, I finally gathered all the chubby, nerdy courage I had to ask an older, eighth-grade boy to slow-dance to a K-Ci and Jo Jo song. When I did, his response was that he had cut his foot earlier, his shoe was filling up with blood, and that he had to go wait outside for his dad to come pick him up. I was too embarrassed to follow through and see if his story was true or not! After that, I was determined to build healthy relationships with males based on sports and intellect, rather than romance. Oddly enough, this down-heartening experience helped me far into my adulthood by valuing people for who they truly are and their good qualities, and not to take things personally!”
